The Technical Artist serves as a translator between art and engineering, working closely with both to ensure that the vision for the game is achieved.  

The Technical Artist acts as a resource within the art team; mentoring other artists in the use of Unity, optimizing pipelines and assets, troubleshooting issues, and acting as a conduit between art and engineering to ensure art content and features are correctly integrated into the game. You are a Unity expert with deep knowledge across the product but especially UI systems, animations and animation controllers, Shuriken, shaders and materials.

Technical Artists are expected to assist in art-centric tool creation for the art team.  Significant experience in best practices to efficiently deliver assets through the game development pipeline is essential.  Technical Artists are expected to have an understanding of drawing, rendering, graphic design, color theory, layout, character design, and animation and how these specialties work together.  Tech Artists are expected to adhere to the style guidelines set forth on a given project.

Essential Job Functions:  

  • Perform R&D for any new tech needed for feature implementation.
  • Assist in developing standards, processes, and proprietary tools along with Production and Development teams.
  • Adhere to file structure in artistic source, directory and version management.
  • Communicating between engineers, designer and any non-technical artists to package assets in the most efficient manner for quality products on the target platform(s)
  • Strong desire to continue improving skills through independent learning and other team members.  Ability to identify more efficient processes to improve throughput.
  • Display a high degree of professionalism at all times, accepting critique from team members.
  • Show efficiency in self-managing time with a reasonable degree of accountability and minimal instruction.
  • Create 2D/3D assets for all aspects of the product including UI, Composition, VFX, Animations.
  • Assist art and development team members in all of the above.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years game development studio experience.
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Unity, 3DS Max
  • General understanding of UI design and development in Unity
  • Deep practical knowledge of what Unity can and can’t do especially regarding the UI system, animations and animation controllers, particle systems, shaders and materials, optimizations and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of versioning software i.e. Git (preferred), Perforce, CVS, Alien Brain or similar.
  • Experience creating motion graphics, animations, and shaders (must have samples).
  • Experience working under tight deadlines.
  • Familiar with particle systems (Unity or equivalent).
  • Exposure to scripting languages such as C#, JS, Python
  • Exposure to shader languages such as GLSL, ShaderLab, and Unity Shaders

Required Qualifications:

Excellent organizational skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel and Outlook.

Familiarity with 3D software.

Understanding of UI / UX principles across various platforms.

Self-motivated and able to work on multiple projects with minimal direction.

Experience playing slot games, video games.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to model, texture and animate in 3D software.
  • Ability to create real-time 3d effects in Unity.
  • Experience creating tools in Unity.
  • Proficient in After Effects and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience in slot art generation.
  • Experience in Agile process management and/or Jira.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Art, Related Field, or Equivalent Experience.
